Movies ‘Til Dawn is a new After Dark module from Berkeley Systems that plays QuickTime movies. QuickTime is Apple Computer’s software to play special animation files that feature synchronized sound and video. (QuickTime is not included here.)
After decompressing the archive, move the uncompressed “Movies ‘Til Dawn” file into your “After Dark Files” folder. Then open the After Dark control panel, and select “Movies ‘Til Dawn” from the list of modules.
Movies ‘Til Dawn can display any one QuickTime movie file, or a whole folder full of movies. If a movie file includes sound, use the speaker icon to set the volume, as usual. The “Order” menu determines whether the movies are played in alphabetical or random order. The “Where” menu sets whether each movie should be centered on screen, or displayed at a random location. Clicking the “Show Name” checkbox displays the file name and location of the current movie at the bottom of the screen.
To select which movie(s) you want to play, click the “Pick Movie...” button. Using the standard file dialog box that appears, open the folder containing the QuickTime movie file(s) you want. (For your convenience, files that are not QuickTime-format are hidden.) At the bottom of this dialog is a checkbox called “Play all movies in folder.” If you want to play all of the movies in that folder, make sure that checkbox is enabled, highlight any movie file in the folder, and click the Open button. To display only one specific movie, uncheck the “Play all movies in folder” checkbox, highlight the desired movie file, and click Open.
For convenience, Movies ‘Til Dawn supports aliases. The actual files do not need to be in the folder you select - they can even be on other disks, CD’s, or mounted file servers. For instance, you might create a new folder inside the After Dark Files folder, name it “QuickTime Movies” (your choice of name), and put aliases to these files in this folder. Movies ‘Til Dawn will skip any non-QuickTime format files in this folder, or aliases to files on disks that are not mounted.
Movies ‘Til Dawn is freeware, not part of either the After Dark 2.0 or More After Dark packages. It may be posted on bulletin board services or distributed by user groups. Any other distribution or commercial use requires permission of Berkeley Systems. This documentation must accompany the Movies ‘Til Dawn file. Berkeley Systems retains all rights and copyrights to Movies 'Til Dawn.
